This is another component I have only seen in movies of ancient Japan. It's a bamboo pipe which allows water to flow through it and when it becomes heavy on the other side it will tilt and the other end of the bamboo will bang against a piece of wood above it, thus causing a loud noise, which I didn't know was an earth-friendly method of scarying wild animals away.
